Bach Meets the Cajon Drum

Tags: , , , , , ,

I came across a great video today that ideally demonstrates the versatility of hand drums in many different music styles. This video shows a cajon drummer playing along with a recording of a Bach piece. I’m sure that when Johann was composing this orchestral suite almost 300 years ago, he didn’t envision it being played along with a cajon drum. If he had heard the result, would he have approved?

Well, I’m not sure how the talented composer would have reacted, however, I like the use of the cajon for this application. I think it sounds great. It’s nice to be able to use drums and percussion instruments in innovative ways. That is part of the joy of percussion. There really are no boundaries. Percussionists are free to continually push the limits of their creativity. So, if you are a drummer, let your imagination take you anywhere you want to go.
