This is LuKa's Rope Tuned Djembe. It has a head diameter of 11 inches and a height of 21 inches. LuKa Percussion uses only premium, hand-selected, Canadian goatskin heads for its djembes. The drumhead in this traditional rope tuned model is held in place and tuned by means of high-quality, alpine-grade climbing rope. This type of rope is used specifically for its strength, durability, and low elasticity. The combination of a high-quality skin and climbing rope results in tuning that is consistent and long lasting. Additionally, this djembe has a high gloss, natural finish that lets the beauty of the wood show through.

LuKa's true solid shell djembes are made in the traditional way by hollowing out solid ash logs. The process of making a LuKa Djembe takes months, and involves a very labour intensive procedure of drying and hand turning the log to produce a shell with a thickness of ¾ of an inch. The careful manufacturing process results in a 100-percent concentric shell with a perfect bearing edge. Ash wood is used because of its weight and sound characteristics. The net result is a lightweight, solid, seamless shell that possesses beautiful resonance properties.

LuKa's djembes have a distinct separation between the three principle sounds, bass, tone, and slap. This is the key to choosing a great sounding djembe. The ash drum shell produces a low, full, meaty bass with a sub-harmonic effect. The tone is clean and musical. The slap is tight, cracking, and loud.
