Repinique![]() Larger Text + | Smaller Text - The repinique is a cylindrical metal-shelled drum with a plastic head on each end. The heads are tuned very tightly to produce a sharp, dry sound. In Brazilian samba groups (bateria) it is the lead drum that sets the tempo for the rest of the drummers. It is worn at the hip held by a shoulder strap. The repinique is usually played by hitting one of the drumheads with one wooden drumstick as well as a bare hand. It may sometimes also be played using two drumsticks or a pair of flexible sticks. For drummers wishing to play Brazilian rhythms, the repinique is indispensable. However, drummers need not restrict its use to Brazilian music only. It will fit very well into a conventional drum set arrangement (using a snare drum stand) and can be used for a variety of musical styles to add new and interesting sounds. For timbale drummers, adding a repinique to the set up will also greatly enhance the sounds and rhythms that can be produced. Monthly Specials For May |
