Repique

Larger Text + | Smaller Text -

The repique de mao is a cylindrical drum with a wood or metal shell and one plastic drumhead mounted on one end. The other end of the drum is left open. Like the rebolo and tantan, the repique de mao is used in Brazilian pagode groups but is smaller than the rebolo and tantan.

The repique de mao is played by holding it horizontally on the drummer's lap. Like the rebolo and tantan, the repique de mao is played with one hand hitting the drumhead, and the other hitting the shell of the drum. This is a subtle drum that is used in a lower volume set up.

In addition to its use in Brazilian pagode, the repique de mao can be used in many other musical styles. It would be a great addition to any set up that requires lower volume drums such as an acoustic set up. The repique de mao is definitely a great addition to any drummer's or percussionist's set up.
