FreehandLarger Text + | Smaller Text - The freehand drum has a unique design. It is a typical frame drum consisting of a shallow wood frame with a natural skin drumhead attached to one end and the other end left open. The difference between the freehand frame drum and other frame drums lies in the drumhead design. Rather than having a single-layer drumhead, it has a double layer of natural skin. This design enables the freehand drum to produce tones not possible with other frame drums. To play a freehand frame drum, the drummer places it between his or her knees while in a sitting position. It is played with both hands utilizing different full hand and finger movements. In this way, the drummer can produce a wide range of controlled sounds and is able to experiment with different playing techniques. The freehand drum is a very interesting and unique frame drum. Its double-layered drumhead design allows drummers and percussionists to produce a unique range of tones and effects. The freehand drum would be an ideal addition to any musical setting for a variety of musical styles. This would be a great hand drum to take to a drum circle. Its controlled tones would be an excellent contribution to the rhythms the group produces. It would also be a good supplementary drum for a drum kit drummer, and would add a new dimension to the music. The freehand drum would be, without a doubt, an excellent addition to any drummer's drum set up.
