Schlagwerk Freehand Drum

The Schlagwerk Freehand Drum is distinguished by its unique head design. Instead of the single-layered skin head found on most frame drums, the freehand drum incorporates a double-layered head. The double skin design is a rarely used option in the construction of natural skin frame drums. The result is quite interesting! The double-layered skin produces very controlled and distinctive tones, inviting the player to experiment with different tensions.

The freehand drum can be played with both hands while the drum is positioned between the legs. It produces controlled but distinct higher-pitched tones when struck on the frame, and a somewhat muted bass sound when hit closer to the centre. This freehand drum's unique sound sets it apart from all other frame drums.

With natural goatskin heads, Schlagwerk's frame drums are remarkable in tonal range sound qualities.
