TuneableLarger Text + | Smaller Text - Tuneable frame drums are highly versatile. They consist of a shallow wood frame with a single drumhead mounted on one side and none on the other. The drumheads are tuneable by the use of an internal tuning mechanism, which allows the drummer to keep them in tune when ambient conditions change. Tuneable frame drums come in a variety of sizes, each capable of producing its own unique range of tones from deep resonant bass sounds, to the higher-pitched tones achieved by hitting the drumhead near the rim. A drummer or percussionist can play tuneable frame drums in a variety of ways. They can be held vertically on the lap, between the knees, held with one hand, or even mounted on a stand. They can be played sitting or standing, with one hand or two, and with simple or complex full hand and finger movements. They can even be played using mallets, brushes, or rods. One tuneable frame drum can be played by itself, or a number of different sizes can be used in a drum set up. The possibilities are virtually endless. Tuneable frame drums provide the drummer or percussionist with the means to produce many interesting and unique sounds. They would be great additions to a drum circle providing a welcome alternative to the dominant djembes. They can also be used in any setting where hand drums are appropriate in both low and higher volume settings. Adding tuneable frame drums to a set up consisting of other types of hand drums would increase a drummer's sound possibilities. And, through the use of mallets, they will provide yet another dimension to the music. Drum kit drummers can use them as supplementary or replacement drums. By mounting several different sizes of tuneable frame drums on stands, a drummer can add many exciting new sounds to his or her music. It is even possible to replace the toms on a drum kit with these tuneable frame drums. This would create an entirely new and unique sound for the drummer, not to mention the fact that frame drums are much more portable. Due to the versatility, exceptional tonal ranges and sound variations, and portability of tuneable frame drums, they are definitely drums any drummer or percussionist should add to his or her drum set up. Doing so would greatly increase his or her percussion repertoire.
