CajintoLarger Text + | Smaller Text - The cajinto is a very interesting drum. Its unique construction is the synthesis of a quinto, cajon, and snare drum. It is an all-wood box drum with a thin wood head on the top and open on the bottom end. There are three different sizes or styles each capable of producing different sounds. The addition of snare wires in the cajinto allows it to produce many interesting sounds. The snare wires can even be adjusted so the snare effect is removed if the drummer so chooses. Each cajinto can be used as a typical hand drum played with the hands or, using brushes or rods, can even serve as a snare drum due to its internal snare wires. Using conga-playing techniques, a drummer can produce sharp slaps and deep bass tones. It can even produce cajon-like wood-smacking sounds. The cajinto is a very versatile drum. It can be used anywhere hand drums are appropriate for a variety of musical styles. It would be a very interesting addition in a drum circle since it can be used with or without its snare drum effect. Additionally, drum set drummers can use the cajinto as a substitute or supplementary snare drum to produce some very interesting and unique sounds. The cajinto is definitely a very unique drum that would give any drummer or percussionist the ability to greatly expand his or her percussion repertoire.
