YambuLarger Text + | Smaller Text - The yambu is a very unique drum, a combination of a conga and a cajon. It is an all-wood box drum with a thin wood head on the top and open on the bottom end. There are three different sizes or styles each capable of producing different sounds. The addition of snare wires in one of the models allows it to produce a snare drum effect, further increasing its versatility. Each yambu can be used as a typical hand drum played with the hands, or a drummer can use brushes or rods for a different sound. Using conga-playing techniques, a drummer can produce sharp slaps and deep bass tones. The range of sounds a drummer can produce greatly increases his or her percussive possibilities. The yambu is a very versatile drum. It can be used anywhere hand drums are appropriate for a variety of musical styles. It would be a very interesting addition in a drum circle. It can be used as a solo drum or in combination with other drums. And, drum set drummers can use the yambu to produce some very interesting and unique rhythms including a snare drum sound. The yambu is definitely a very unique drum that would give any drummer or percussionist the ability to greatly expand his or her percussion repertoire.
