BlocksLarger Text + | Smaller Text - Percussion blocks are perhaps one of oldest forms of musical instruments. They have been and continue to be used extensively in many musical styles and settings. They can take many forms: solid or hollow blocks in different shape and size configurations; wood or plastic compositions; a single type of wood or a combination of different woods; or many different tonal variations. Percussion blocks can be played by hitting them with drumsticks or rubber mallets, depending on the desired sound. They can be used in any number of ways in a particular piece of music to add variety to the percussion sound. Because of their versatility, the possibilities are virtually endless. Drum kit drummers would do well to add some percussion blocks to their drum set up. By using a variety of different percussion block sounds, they can add a new dimension to their music. These blocks can also be taken to a drum circle to contribute some interesting sounds and rhythms. Percussion blocks are definitely a great addition to any drummer's or percussionist's drum set up.
